Tournament History

Beach volleyball in Ensenada started in 1986 with different tournaments being organized on local beaches. Beach volleyball started as a recreational sport, and it wasn’t until 1992 that a group of friends decided to take it to the next level by organizing a mayor event with the quality of players, prize money and vibe that would draw the crowds to the beach. The year after that, the first official Baja Open was organized drawing high level players from both Mexico and the U.S. along with cheering crowds that filled up the beach. Baja Open is now on it’s 14th year and it is considered to be one of the best tournaments in Mexico due to the atmosphere of the event and the quality of players that compete in the tournament , since it started players from Costa Rica, Canada, El Salvador, Germany, Argentina, U.S., Jamaica, Holland, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Morocco, Samoa, Switzerland & Mexico have been drawn to the tournament and this edition promises to be the best one yet. .
